Fall in love with some of our most precious, public national treasures. Unlike many other federally funded institutions and buildings, our parks have been preserved and protected for anyone and everyone—of all ages—to use and enjoy.

The wisdom of setting aside these lands goes beyond their natural beauty, wildlife habitat, recreational and family enjoyment and special memories created, to another benefit and bonus—more essential than ever today—knowledge. 

They store knowledge and answers in undisturbed layers of deep time.

Answers to understanding how our planet functions, past and present. Clues to the beginnings and process of life on earth and being able to see what “green” and “natural” truly mean. From mountain building—or destroying—volcanoes, to microscopic primitive life forms that color hot springs, to the architectural evidence of ice sheets and glaciers that carved the land and shifted rivers around, they teach that earth is not static, but continually shifting, changing and recycling in ways we still need to fully understand to make good decisions for the future. 

Each book introduces a park with such a unique personality it becomes a main character—with its background of complex forces that shaped its present: from the geologic upbringing of the region, to climate shifts and stresses that molded, to stories of the First People to adapt to the ever-changing land. Though works of fiction, the historic and prehistoric beginnings are carefully researched to enhance the tour of roads and paths in, around, and leading to the heart of the present day park. You will be guided by another love story, an entertaining light romance, with more new friends to share the trip and the laughter.
